Word of the Week… Consistency

On the mats during every class, we talk with our fellow practitioners about different character traits and effective mindsets to help us improve both on the mats, and in our daily life as well.

Consistency in the application of something, typically that which is necessary for the sake of logic, accuracy, or fairness.

In our case for Martial Arts training, we will look at consistency as what we do daily or weekly to help us improve our bodies, minds, and spirit.

Being January… It’s easy to imagine what we will look in only a few short months once we

  • Lose weight
  • Gain muscle
  • Sleep more
  • Spend more time with our families
  • Get more clients

The list goes on!

However, most of us are focused on the outcome in the short term…

Imagine you start going to the gym for one day… then you look in the mirror and you see no results!

Darn…

But! You continue to train, and go to the gym the next day and voila:

Still no results..

So you lose motivation and eventually stop going to the gym completely.

BUT

You’ll keep the gym membership just to feel better about yourself😉

What consistency helps us to do, is to break our New Year’s resolutions or various goals into a daily habit or ritual which we will promise ourselves to perform for a time.

REGARDLESS of short term effectiveness.

“I will go to the gym for 30 minutes every day.”

“I will spend 10 minutes of ‘special time’ with each member of my family every day.”

“I will go to bed at or before 11:00pm every day.”

The keyword with consistency, is every day.

When you start doing something with consistency, when you start doing something every day… you become the kind of person that does that thing every day.

The kind of person who exercises daily

The kind of person who reads daily

The kind of parent who spends quality time with their kids daily

THOSE kinds of people, they change their lives… and the lives of those around them

It’s not a race with our daily habits, it’s a marathon.

Don’t give up if you don’t see that 6 pack in the mirror by January 31st this year… If you keep consistent you’ll improve over time!

Your belt will change colour during your taekwondo training, slowly over time! Before you know it, you’ll be wearing your blackbelt on your waist and train at that high level.

It’s not a matter of if.

Just a matter of when.

Train hard, and see you on the mats!👊🏻
